I promised to keep everyone posted on our little bundle of bovine joy (I know you are all dying to know how she's doing), so I'm happy to report she is doing very well. Momma Ruby and baby Mae were sent out to pasture shortly after my last post and we thought we weren't going to be seeing them again for quite a while but they came back!! Baby Mae has been accepted into the herd and is nursing and foraging like a champ. She really is the cutest!
We recently moved into a new place while we figure out whether we are moving forward with building a house or buying an existing one. The move with a toddler, was horrendous, but we have a few more perks in our new home, one of which is our farm animal neighbors. Some of you probably think I'm nuts, I'm sure, but even though I'm not technically a farm girl, I married a farmer and I grew up in a place that's only real claim to fame is that we have more cows than people (sad I know)... I guess all things considered it had to rub off on me. So now I begrudgingly say I am a farm girl at heart and what kid doesn't love a farm?!
Ok, Ok... Getting to the point now! We have beef cows out to pasture behind our house (also known as Hereford cattle), and one of them was expecting! The little guy and I had been keeping a close eye on her since we moved in about 6 weeks ago and I was really hoping for a Mother's Day surprise... Well she calved in two days early! On Friday, May 8th, "Ruby" gave birth to a beautiful, healthy, heifer calf! And although we missed the actual birth (total bummer), we did get to see her shortly thereafter. She shares her mother's red coloring and we are super excited to get to watch her nurse and fumble around the barnyard. Just check her out!! We have affectionately named her "Mae." (**Some pictures may be slightly blurry - you try focusing a camera while wrestling a toddler**)
Isn't she just the cutest?! Anyway watching animals parent is a sure way to make you thankful for our human, modern conveniences and mostly for not having to stand while nursing (that's got to suck). I will try to keep everyone updated on her growth... dang she's cute!
Just a reminder: The Barn Owl's Nest Gift Shop is open on Etsy.com I am adding new products every week! Don't forget to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest so you can stay up to date with all of our posts and listings!
I think these are my favorite kinds of posts. If you talk to anyone who knows me they can tell you I'm pretty particular. I would hope they would have a few nice things to say too but it's true so when I find a product that works like it's meant to and I really like I want to sing it from a mountaintop! Well not really, I can't sing and it's over an hours drive to the nearest mountain, who has the time... So here I am telling you from my broken desk chair. If anyone has survived (notice I didn't say been through) a northern NY spring you may appreciate these products a little more but I am sure they will help just about anyone! Here are a few of my favorite things for spring:
Edited: I no longer endorse this product.
There you have it, a few of my favorite things. Let me know if you try any and what you think or if there is a product you think I just HAVE to try, I'm game!
In the craziness that has been the past year I have sorrily neglected my blog and website... Well that's about to change!! Another big change I can tell you about is The Barn Owl's Nest Etsy store is finally open!! I bet all of you thought I didn't know the definition of the words "Link Coming Soon!" Well my friends, the wait is over and the link is up!! I have officially been open for 4 days, exactly one month after we moved to a new house (not our forever home yet, but we are one step closer). In all the drama, hub bub, and nightmares of moving (that I just as soon forget), my business took a little hit so we opened with fewer products than anticipated and not the variety or style I had originally envisioned but all in due time. I will be working hard over the next few months to grow my little shop into the vision I had for it from the start. In the meantime you can look here for more updates, craft tutorials and random musings (if you are truly that bored).
Hello, I'm Casey, the owner of the Barn Owl's Nest blog and online store. I am a married, 31 year old first time new mommy. We welcomed our first child, a beautiful baby boy in 2013! We are also proud parents to our black lab Bella and our short haired cat Luna. This blog will offer craft and recipe tutorials as well as personal stories and hopefully some useful information on products and everyday life. Be sure to check out the store page too. Have a beautiful day!
